Welcome to the Ethnicity, Racism and Media (ERaM) discussion forum, hosted by the Black Agenda.

ERaM is devoted to all aspects pertaining to the role of mass media in generating and disseminating representations of race and ethnicity. Collectively, ERaM provides a global research network open to those academics, media professionals and others engaged in systematic research or professional practice in the area of ethnicity, racism and media.

The purpose of this forum is to identify, examine and separate the myths about the role and portrayal of ethnicity and race in the media.

Hence, the ERaM forum welcomes discussions of topics directly related to the writings, speeches, taped recordings, photographs, movies, documentaries and the numerous books and articles written about ethnicity, racism and media.

Who should participate on the ERaM Listserv?
The ERaM forum welcomes young people, academics, students, journalists, organizers, those involved in media production, political science, race and ethnic studies, sociology, telecommunications, broadcasters, editors, film-makers and media professionals.

Pride of place will be given to contributions that foster a better understanding of:

  1. The media influence on relations worldwide.

  2. Reporting on racial and ethnic groups Who Decides What's News?

  3. Racial and ethnic media coverage and community structure.

  4. Mass media as an information channel for racial and ethnic groups.

  5. The direction and impact of media as it increasingly integrates and converges with various elements of an information society.

  6. Understanding media and its social, political, economic and cultural implications on racial and ethnic groups.

In addition, as a resource to its members, the ERaM forum will continuously seek to identify the thousands of resources, materials, organizations and Internet sites revolving around ethnicity, racism and the media.
